Oh mama if you could see
The woman that I grew up to be

I write books about witches
I’m told they are magic
I teach exercise classes and inspire
I’m strong and brave and I look like you
Hazel eyes full of passion and fire

Oh mama if you could see
The woman that I grew up to be

You were a gifted grammarian and you loved to read
Your mathematical skills were superb
You never missed a trick, you were far too quick
Be it rhyme, reason, adjective or verb

Oh mama if you could see
The woman that I grew up to be

I dance and create, I use my mind
My spelling is still poor
But I write my books and I love to cook
I can still do the splits and so much more

Oh mama if you could see
The woman that I grew up to be

I speak Italian and I constantly learn
I wish you were here to see
I know not where you are anymore
But at times I feel you close to me

Oh mama if you could see
The woman that I grew up to be

I wish that you could hold me close
Or even tell me off
I’d like to take you for tea and cake
Not cry over your photos found in the loft

Oh mama if you could see
The woman that I grew up to be

As I’ve grown from child to woman
I’m told your face is now mine
This knowledge is a comfort, it keeps me safe
Your spirit my spirit they intertwine

God bless you mama

Ti amo

My first day of school aged four. Notice my red nose and eyes. I’d been crying, I didn’t want to go.
